So how about a fun work story for once....

So I took last Thursday off, and my coworkers took the opportunity to schedule Health and Human Development (a.k.a. Sex Ed). Now this is fun for two reasons,

1. As the only male instructor in my department I automatically get to teach the boys.

and

b. I teach Special Ed,

so generally this is an easy afternoon, we watch the mandatory video (copyright 1991, one of the kids actually has a hyper color shirt on) and then we go back to class, questions are rare and easy to handle. Today I got a new one though, one of the boys leans over during the half of the movie dealing with the female development, right about the time they show this diagram

or as I jokingly call it (outside of class) the cow skull, sorry ladies.

any who this boy asks me... the only question, I got all afternoon, "Is that how big it really is? how does a baby fit in there?" now I was taken aback, my mind reeled did he mean that he though the uterus was 6 feet across, as it was projected on the bard, or that it was just a few inches like the small diagram on the papers we are required to handout. I tried to answer him, hand then realized that I have no idea how big a uterus is, I"m pretty sure its not 6 feet across, so I went with the old standby... we'll talk about it in a bit and then hoped that he would forget his question. He did and we all had popsicles, sometimes I am a lazy teacher.

I am winning all the sports!!!

I don't know how I would have reacted to that scenario ...

A little redirection can work wonders on most kids, masterfully done. I can't decide if that day of the year would be more like hell or christmas because I can see how it would be terribly uncomfortable to teach that subject but the potential for great funny moments is huge.
