So I'd expect by now that most smokers in NJ have heard about the recent law passed that effectively bans smoking in most indoor establishments. Much like our neighbors across the Hudson, NJ smokers will now have to brave the elements in order to feed their addiction at bars, nightclubs, rester aunts, etc. The exemption? The casinos of Atlantic City and establishments that receive 15% or more from the sale of tobacco products, eg: cigar shops/lounges, etc. Violators will face fines between $250-$1000 (42-167 packs of cigarettes). The law, expected to be signed this Sunday, will not go into effect until sometime in April.
In the end, this law doesn't effect only NJ smokers, but smokers all across the nation. How long will it be before smoking is only allowed with in private homes? How long before it is banned outright?
Now I can understand non-smokers being in support of this ban, but what I cant understand is the strict regulations that will be enforced. It goes with out saying that smoking and drinking go together, why not allow some bars to designate themselves as smoking bars?
* sigh *
Well, come April any of you ousted smokers are welcome to come by my place to throw back a few and smoke some good old American tobacco; the stuff our nation was established on. I'll be there... bitters as ever.
