The perfect pleasure of a dim, rainy morning set to the Cure's Disintegration. Mmm.

I've been all revelations and evolution lately. Hard work, but something of a blast. I feel closer--to what, I don't yet know.

I do know that I refuse to believe that thousands of years of human thought has brought us no closer to the Truth.
And I'm seeing patterns in everything, these weeks. Just waiting to lock into something real.
I belong to a literary movement that doesn't yet exist.
This is partially my fault, as I've hardly written anything.
The proper title for this movement (since movements must have names, let's not imagine we can escape this), would be re-constructivism. Post-post-modernism.
The 20th century left a pile of ashes behind. Let's fucking build something.

Because it occurred to me:
cipher's Top Ten Moments in Percussion
10. "March of the Pigs" - I hate to have another NIN song on here, but I can't think of loving drums without thinking of this smashing intro; makes you want to beat skulls into pavement, or tap the nearest solid object with a finger, pen, etc. Either way. Mmm, skull.
9. "Into You" - A Whisper in the Noise; small local outfit, but their drummer deserves recognition, & really this is just one of many songs where he shines; truly thundrous fucking drumming.
8. "Age of Consent" - New Order; Stephen Morris remains one of my favorite drummers for a reason; this is just a good goddamn time, & it always makes me want to shake it.
7. "Agony" - Eels; these drums, when they come in a mighty fusillade, are agony; searing, shuddering agony; and awesomeness.
6. "Firebird" - Igor Stravinsky; so beautifully chaotic; Tool's line, "Finding beauty in the dissonance" always makes me think of Stravinsky; I should pinpoint one movement, but there are so many great ones, so I just say "Firebird."
5. "Where Is My Mind?" - Pixies; obvious, but so classic, and so unbelievably cool.
4. "Wretched" & "10 Miles High" - Nine Inch Nails, off of Things Falling Apart; I group these together not only because they fall on the same EP, but since Trent pulls the same trick on both of them. A long, quiet buildup, and then sudden, hammer-of-god drums. One of my favorite things to listen to whilst drunk (I love percussion whilst drunk).
3. "Over" - Portishead, spec. off of Live NYC; a slow burn, culminating in this heavy ignition. Good for the soul.
2. "Judith" - A Perfect Circle; they're not really a metal band, but this is one of those ultimate metal songs, and the warcry opening drums is certainly part of that. Makes you want to kick ass.
1. "Love Will Tear Us Apart" - Joy Division; so fucking beautiful. I cannot hear this without tapping something, feet, hands, all four at once. And I've tried. This is the heartbeat of breaking love, and it's beautiful.

So that's that. So with a reminder that you can't trust whitey, I'm outtie 5000.
