I swear I will never ever ever ever ever understand women. They just make no sense whatsoever. Please allow me to elaborate.
I went out with this girl a couple of times back in like Oct/ Nov. Nothing serious, just a couple of dates here and there and she would come over to my house and hang out after work every now and then, but it just wasn't there. So I stopped seeing her. Now I know this was a mistake, I violated one of my cardinal rules (well, more of a guideline really) because we work at the same place. Its a really big place so I hardly ever see her, but we still work at the same place. Anyway, she comes up to me right before I am supposed to get off of work tonight and tells me she's in love with me. Now, keep in mind I haven't even talked to this girl besides the occasional hello in passing for something like two months.
Now, she's a really sweet girl and I would still like to keep things friendly between the two of us, but what the hell am I supposed to do now? Act like it didn't happen? Have a "talk" with her telling her that I don't feel the same for her or what? I guess it wouldn't be so bad but I remember talking to her one night and she told me that she had never been in love with anyone before.
Well, what in the fuck makes you think you're in love with me?
Anyway, I just don't know what the fuck she's thinking. She's not crazy or unbalanced or anything so I really don't understand where in the hell this thing is coming from. We never even slept together for Christ's sake. It was a nothing relationship.
Is there an easy way to tell someone that, although you are flattered, etc., you can't reciprocate the feeling? Or is this an occaision where bluntness (metted out with tact, mind you) is warranted? Fuck I don't know. I guess I'll just handle it like I do everything else. Just play it by ear.

"...tell someone that, although you are flattered, etc., you can't reciprocate the feeling...bluntness metted out with tact..."
Edited slightly, to make a point.
You answered your own question. Be gentle, but be honest with her. Here's the deal - it's your life, so you shouldn't feel bad about saying "no thank you". Yes I know we still do, but as long as you're tactful, and not mean, you've done your job with a clear conscience. And that way there's not a long drawn out, "gee, I can't answer the phone cause it might be her" thing to deal with. Better for you and better for her. You know what to do...
