Poignancy has a strange connection with elequence. There was a dialogue by Francois de la Mothe Fenelon called dialogue on elequence where three people argue about the meaning of elequence. Eloquence, Fenelon argues, is the principled use of the old arguments of the Englightened to make a point in the presence of the world. Poignancy is where some incident propels you to a time when things were meaningful and perfect, a time where the space around you stops to remind you of your place, a time that never really existed except in your head.
