Alright, so let's get this straight in everyday language. Enemy combatants that are considered POW's are supposed to be held in military prisons until the end of the conflict.
So did the Bush administration consider Al Quada is a valid enemy army while it doesn't recognize the Iran government as the government of it's country?
Bushy you can't have it both ways.
And now these Con-serf-atives are concerned about where the detainees will be held. Basically Obama missed one sentence and they are freaking out and jumping to conclusions. While our laws only apply to our citizens, these detainees need a military court to determine their sentences as enemies of the state. Military detention camps in the USA are just as secure as GITMO.
So why close GITMO? Because it is a symbol of torture, aggression, injustice, and tarnishes the reputation of our country.
