To My Father
God, I Love You
You are more gorgeous and wonder inspiring than the
most gorgeous rainbow
And God, you are as thirst quenching as the purest,
gentle wet rain that came before
God, I Love You
You are as green and breathy and refreshing as the
rain forest
And, God, You are as myriad and multiple and ever so
rhyming and musically logical as all the creation
You have spun from your symphonic mouth
Falling like hummingbirds and frogs and fishes
and adorable cats onto this earth
God, the Sun is hot, the stars are infinitely bright
and huge, the space between awesome and terrifying
in its gorgeous emptiness
And, somewhere there are angels, and friends who have
died, all dancing in a Heaven while I sit here and
contemplate the band that plays the music You have
written that they dance to and I out of another ear
more divine than these two hear that music --
vaguely and sometimes palpably, near or far away,
constant sometimes and sometimes evanescent,
fleeting
And God, the One that I Love
I drop this little note to You in the small hours while
Angels sleep but my muse is awake with me
And We, both my muse and I feel an infinite ocean
of laughter and happiness bubbling up in my Heart --
exploding and erupting into the heavens, the earth
and over Your bed
Gently we wake You and offer You a cup of angel tea
And I say to You, God, as You sit up in bed and rumple
Your brow: I am Your Son and I thank You for raising
me to be as You the Father
And, Father, I thank You for my ten big toes and my
very big nose and these fine five fingers that write
this poem to You
Father, give me a hug for You are my beginning and my
final homecoming
For someday I shall be Enlightened and I shall always
Love You -- not Just Now or Now and Then
But constantly
And finally as I often say to my friend, Brenda
I Love You beause are so Lovable
I Love You, Father, I really Do
