Another Year Has Gone By

Another year has gone by
There's been Murders, Fire, Wars and Heartaches
There have been horrible acts of God
And terrible crimes against Men and Women
Perpetrated by men and women

There have also been great, overwhelming acts of
Love and Charity

And I, I have Loved You
And You have Loved me
And I have Loved many Yous
And many Yous have Loved me

I have taken much,
I have given much
We have all (that is, most of us) both taken and given,
We have all (with the exception of a sainted few)
hated, and we have all
(With the exception of a benighted few) Loved

And Love is still God and
God is still Love
And I still believe in Love
And therefore I also believe in God

And I believe in Heaven
But I don't think Heaven is the exclusive preserve
of a few right believers, however you may interpret that
I believe someday there shall be Heaven above
And Heaven on Earth for ALL of us
Even the meanest or worst of us
Even the lowest of God's Creatures
Even NON-right believers, however you may interpret that

Another year has gone by:
When you look at it, it may seem as though, since the beginning of time,
Nothing much, morally, has changed but somehow
I believe that God Loves us and
We Love Him, know it or not

And we are closer to Heaven and
Heaven on Earth than ever before

Another year has gone by
Full of Murders, Fires, Wars and Heartaches
But also full of kindness and charity and
God, God!

Another year has gone by ...
