TW: Suicide, Self-Harm
I have been scolded for opting for the path I have chosen, but I wouldn't change it for a thing. My main motivation behind becoming a SuicideGirl was to use the platform to advocate for mental health awareness. My first love died from suicide, and I have never truly recovered. I got my first tattoo for him. I have always felt that I should use my voice to speak on important issues. So, I consistently utilize my Instagram, Snapchat, Twitter, and now SuicideGirls to promote mental health awareness.
I struggled with self-harming for years before I discovered tattoos and piercings. When I struggle with my depression, I get a tattoo or piercing. All of my piercings have been spur-of-the-moment; they help me get through an unpredictably tough time when I feel at my lowest. Since discovering piercings and tattoos, I haven't relapsed.
During my very first photoshoot in what would become my modeling career, the photographer told me he knew hundreds of girls who submitted set after set and wouldn't be chosen. I was misinformed and never investigated SuicideGirls as I thought it was out of my reach. After @writeboy saw a shoot I did with another photographer about a year later, we discussed shooting together, and he urged me to submit to become a Hopeful. And now, I am so proud to be pink! I am so thankful for those who have encouraged me along the way.
