I update this thing far too often. Anyway just came back from Bump n Grind Bonanza Burlesuqe. It was interesting seeing the type of crowd that attends burlesque shows. Tonight just reinforced what I've seen so far. I've always struggled with the fact that burlesque for some people can merely mean soft-core stripteases, that are acceptable to go to. I don't see it that way, maybe because of what I seen, maybe because of how I want to view it. Neo-burlesque seems to struggle with that.

NEVER keep an audience waiting for an hour and then start the burlesque show with music. Poor Mach Pelican. I don't neccesairly like their music, but they had a good attitude, and great energy. I just wasn't in the mood for them. I came for burlesque and I wasn't the only one.

Man's ruin were overrated. They are very polished at what they do, and it's good, they're good, but in my mind they're not really burlesque, and whilst compared to the Vodoo trash Dolls they are more polished, they have less performances skills. They are however a good endorsment of the whole body shape/image thing, but they don't play with it, they don't really explore, they just show, same also applies to the Diamond Dolls.

Belladonna's De Lux, had small elements of burlesque, the whole operator act was at least the pretence of burlesque, and they know how to work with a crowd, lots of tricks (free fortune cookies anyone?), but they work. I felt they were rushed until their final act which I loved. Great pacing and mood as well as variations of both pace and mood and great control, they controlled the audience.

I love the town bikes. They know their characters, and they know their personas, and more importantly whilst they don't neccesairly go that deep in their parody and commentary they comment and they parody .
That's what burlesque is to me, the sexuality element in my mind should always be a tool not a result. I howled with laughter when I saw the final part of the second costume for their bug act(hell I laughed when I saw the costume, but their costumes are always good). I loved the ending (a poinyant use of silly string?)

So at the end of the night, I didn't get hit by paint, I did get sprayed by the string, and I got a set of bead dice on a string. Not a bad way to spend $17.60

smile Good luck with the Scope job. It sounds interesting - working on both levels with individuals and as someone higher up in the organisation.

Haha! Thanks for the advice. Loved it. I think trying to stay positive constantly (for the sake of others rather than myself) is more exausting than just going through the different emotions.

I was thinking of going on one of those camps but a friend of a friend (lol) apparently went on one and was shocked cos the workers got so little support and they were expected to deal with abusive and druged up kids. Apparently its not such a healthy place and alot of ppl come back before scheduled. My bf talks about doing the teaching english thing tho. I wouldnt be able to do it cos I still need lessons myself - particularly with spelling. whatever

Not sure what Ill do - this uni thing is slowly straightening out. Will see how it goes.

tc. smile
