My son Austin and I are chillin' for the weekend in Seattle. Okay, well, Tacoma anyway. Me and the kid did get our lazy asses up to downtown Seattle yesterday and we had a blast walking around, checking out all the wonderful things at the Pike Place Market. I didn't see Zarth, which is just as well because I'd rather have a drink with him and get my ass kicked by him when I'm not with my kid.
We made a mandatory stop at the very first Starbucks store. It was kinda interesting, despite the massive summer crowds. The original Starbucks is a pretty simple place, with none of the familiar accoutrements of the chain locations, you know like chairs, tables, or the funky lamps and what-not. The logo of the place is even different. The familiar green logo associated with the Starbucks chain is replaced with brown, and the mermaid in the logo is refreshingly bare breasted. The service was very quick despite the long lines, and my Frappuccino was actually pretty good, with a nice, deep roasted coffee flavor. I'm not a big Starbucks fan in the first place. I find the coffee their tastes burnt, but I give this Original Store credit for a job well done.

For a little snack, Austin and I went a couple stores over to a little Russian bakery called Piroshky, Piroshky. In simple terms, a piroshky is a delicious pastry filled will either sweet or savory ingredients. Austin had the beef and onion, and I had the cheddar cheese "wheel" with green onions. Both had light and flaky pastry with just enough filling to make it interesting without being too filling.

After our junket to downtown, The son and I headed back down to Tacoma and took in a flick. After hearing all the hype about Transformers, I was certain that it was going to be a Turkey. I was prepared to dislike it, but I have to admit, I was impressed. The effects were stinking awesome, the plot moved along quickly enough to make me forget its utter ridiculousness, and the acting of Shia Labeouf, the lead male character, was pretty damn good. Megan Fox lived up to her surname as well. Mmm...Megan.

Our plans for the rest of the weekend include, watching Nascar on TV, washing Roxy in our Motel 6 bathtub, and walking to the Chinese Buffet down the street. Enjoy your weekend. Click the pic below for a slideshow of yesterday's little trip.
