I have traveled long inches like miles
like an ant crawling across the plams of your hands
dwelling in the creases
transversing those long rough tapered fingers
memorizing their prints and whorls
and I am
not ready
for this to be
over

your long lean muscled body is the landscape of my heart
your rising and falling chest as you breathe
has been the metranome of my heartbeat
your eyes opening in the morning
sleepy and slow
the pupils emerging from beneath those lush lashes
this has been my sunrise
your dancing blue eyes have been my ocean and my skies
and i dont want this business to be
finished

youve brought so much light into my life
how can you
shut it off and leave me
squinting in darkness

But you say this is over
the book has slammed shut
and I was not finished reading it
you caught me mid- chapter
mid-sentence
mid-word
I was so engrossed in this story

helplessly hopelessly haplessly
I await your return
my ears are thirsty for the sound of your footsteps
they drain the land dry trying to drink you back in
my eyes are so hungry for your face
and nothing else can satisfy
