It's worth noting that if you were directly raised by your grandparents, most commanders will make the exception. We had a guy here who was actually raised by his aunt and uncle who was granted emergency leave for his cousin's untimely passing, as they were raised as brothers.

So yeah, it really depends on your command. Unfortunately, I'm somewhat hard to replace in the slot I'm in right now, so I don't even have to ask.
