Bookshop Ponderings

~ I know people try to live without regrets and I think it's a great ethos but do people who say they have none really mean it? I mean honestly, is there nothing about their life that they regret? When I think about it there's probably a few things I regret having not done but they're pretty inconsequential and I haven't ever really dwelt on them too much. Things I have done, however, well that's another story. Once again there are countless silly things that maybe everyone else just discounts out of hand but I still find myself spending too much time dwelling on them. So I guess it's no surprise really that when it comes to big things I'm even worse! How can you not regret hurting people, letting them down, letting yourself down? Ok so eventually you lay these things to rest but I still count them as things I regret.

Yes work had been a little boring. They keep sticking me on top floor which on the whole is pretty quiet so I've had far too much time to think! Aside from that it's been a good week though. I went over a friend's place and, after getting through quite a lot of amaretto and several games on the Wii, dragged her out so I could dance. Predictably for Ashford the club was crap but it was free entry and buy-one-get-one-free, well it was a Monday. Still, we had fun doing stupid dancing, as per usual, and I ended up being quite disappointed when they closed. Had a very unproductive day recovering sitting in the back garden talking rubbish, playing yet more Wii and then helping/hindering in equal quantities baking a cake. She finally got rid of me after cooking a great meal, which I felt very guilty for not finishing!

I've been trying to use all the fresh veg that's been growing in the garden but I haven't been able to keep up this week. Unfortunately the slugs have been getting to the courgettes before me quite often but I'm overrun with tomatoes! I've been bringing them into work, giving them to friends and still I've got more than I cook with. I shouldn't complain really I know, I do love being able to go outside and pick the veg and then cook with it right there and then. As a family we've always talked about how ridiculous it is that we can get whatever we want food wise all year round. I know some people think that's great and a benefit of globalization but to be honest when it means that local producers are missing out all the time I don't see it as much of a benefit. However, you will still find our kitchen stocked with food from Kenya and Thailand and I don't know where else! It's ridiculous! So I've had enough of the talk and I'm finally going to do what it is we've been talking about and buy seasonally as much as possible.

On a less preachy note, went up to London after work Saturday and had a lovely meal with Iannnnnn during which I don't think he could get a word in edge-ways (sorry about that!). It was a shame I had to rely on driving to get home as I quite enjoyed the Margherita I had and quite wanted more! biggrin
