R.I.P. George Carlin

I can't begin to explain the sadness that comes from learning of Gerorge's death at the age of 71. He was a brilliant comedian, always questioning the world around him, always curious. he was a master of language and always found the perfect combination of words to make us laugh. not only was he smart and observant, but he was brave as well. he said what so many of us wish we could.

he was also my personal hero. his work helped get me though some tough times in my life. i felt very connected to him, often referring to him as just "George", assuming everyone knew who i was talking about. when i was down, no matter what the circumstances, i could count on George to make me laugh.

George Carlin was, simply put, a genius. it's a great loss to the world of comedy, and to the world in general, and he will be greatly missed. it's strange to shed tears over someone i've never met, but he touched my life in ways i can't even begin to explain here. of course, he'll live on through his work and hopefully he can inspire others for years to come, just as he inspired me. he was so much more than just a comedian and i'll mourn his death for a long long time. frown

volkov:
he was almost like the patron saint of my close group of malcontents through high school and college. I've probably quoted him more than any book or song. the guy's work was nothing short of fucking fantastic.

seeing/hearing his work was like graduating from the world of slapstick to real social commentary. he could make things so funny by pulling the truth and the ridiculousness out of them.
