Life of a pub landlord in lockdown!

Ok, as the world starts coming to terms with this virus covid19 I thought I would let you in on how us pub landlords are dealing with things. I took on this beautiful pub in August of last year

It was closed at the time and I made a promise to the villagers here that I would keep it open for them. Already I feel like I’ve broken my word even if it was inevitable under government instructions. It’s been a joy to see friends and their families use the building for what it was designed. We have had a scarecrow festival

We have had Halloween

With plenty of dressing up

And obviously the Christmas and New Year festivities

The new year ushered in a new chance for me to make my own business as popular as I can with both locals and visitors alike. Then all of a sudden there’s news from China of a new super bug and we all said it will pass. Now however the whole planet seems to be gripped in its hold.

This brings me to today, only day 3 of lock down and complete isolation having made the choices to keep all my staff at their homes with their families but fully paid. The place they needed to be with the support they needed from me. It also means that now locked down I find myself in isolation as I am single. To lock down a pub means that all alcohol must be put under lock and key. Any open bottles had to be measured, listed and separated. The foods we had in fridges that couldn’t be sold were distributed among the staff to use. I have kept enough fresh for me for about 4 days. The rest is then frozen meals or the odd cash and carry dash.

I have since spent the rest of my time cleaning, cleaning beer lines, wiping surfaces, disinfecting everything that has been in touch with the public. My future over the next few weeks is that of cleaning, setting tasks to keep me busy. Everything will be cleaned and wiped down every few days, then it’s back to the start and clean again.

We will at some point come out the other end, I just hope that everyone finally gets the message and stays home, it’s the only real way to get a grip on it. Well, enough from me, if you’ve taken the time to read this then thank you. Please all, be safe, keep your safe distance and I’ll see you on the other side. John, aka cheffers.

Your attitude to keep them in home and fully paid is awesome, I'm proud :)
