I'd been thinking again about partiotism, with this day coming up, a couple days ago. I really hate the question "Do you love America?" To me, it's like asking- Do you love air, or concepts, or the universe, or moods? There's so much in America (a series of lines drawn up on a map, comprised by a series of governmental papers that might or might...

yeah, I think you're right. That OWGT version sounds a lot better, and the band looks cooler, but I wanted all the clips to be live, so I had to go with that version. Oasis rules, love 'em to death. Even if they are jerks, for the most part. biggrin

I've hated July 4 since I was about 17 -- I was arrested by MPs on a military base for possession before the fireworks show. Being handcuffed on the one day when we're supposed to be expressing our liberty made me very skeptical about things like freedom and patriotism, and stuff.

Thanks for listening to the songs.

So are you straight up diggin' Portland?

I had a great, great weekend. I rented a bunch of movies from a library that I mostly won't get to before they're due because- I was doing MUCH better stuff and having a WAY better time than watchin DVDs by myself... so that's good.

Also, enjoyed mikael's band and seeing the folks who are goin to those shows, you know your identities! And...

You know I thought it odd the other day as I was at Giant and viewing all of my salsa options and I thought "damn, Cheech always had excellent taste in salsa. If he were only here now to help me pick it out". It's really too quiet without you around.

May I recommend the movie "The weeping camel" if it is ever available for rent at the library. Good docudrama.

The benefit show Friday went well; for some weird reason my legs were really crampy (my advice is to never squat when you don't have a chair; just sit on the dirty floor... and I was goin up n down stairs a lot) but things were good otherwise. I liked Scout Niblett's playing, and well would like to see the other folks play live again,...

Wow, so hot that far north? I never would have guessed. Seriously.
It's always amazed me how people in some cultures squat all the time. And it's no big deal to them. They don't use chairs. Just really cool to me how comfortable they seem to be, squatting. Kinda makes me jealous.
Liked some of that Scout Niblett.
morgan:
Yeah, they act like caring hippies until actually caring about people makes them uncomfortable. It makes me really angry and really, really disappointed.

Saw Seu Jorge on Tuesday night, with opening singer Jehro (short for Jrme Cotta). Jehro was absolutely fantastic, just him on guitar/ singin and another guitarist, with some beat-samples mixed in. He comes from France, with mixed heritage, but his music is a blend of Caribbean styles. I think this is the only time I've seen an audience clamor for an encore from an opening...

Did you see lep on tv last night? Good tune, loved that dude's guitar that had the union jack on it. smile
trixel:
Now THAT is a show I would have liked to have seen. I've not heard anything but the Life Aquatic stuff, but I like the way he plays, the mood. I'll have to check out Jehro.

Your cake comment gave me an instant wish to walk to this cake place in the village and pick some up. I'm sorta craving a strawberry shortcake. <insert drooling icon> robot

Busy weekend.
Friday, went to Ground Kontrol with howdypardner. I'm still not able to play for long on any games but Dig Dug (you can let the monsters escape, after all; heck, I only lost lives cuz the joystick's messed), but I did do okay on second tries of Burgertime and Pac man. Howdypardner is better at pinball than I, and probably Super Mario...

Man, I'm still stumbling around the new format like a regular "newb", but good to see you're doing well across the country. Portland sounds like a good time- wish I was there. I'm thinking about an eventual cross-country journey, but I've sworn to go to New York first. If I stopped planning all these dinky little trips, I'm sure I could swing it financially. But I need instant and frequent gratification (read: escape). Heh. Well, more later, assuredly. Ciao, dear. kiss

Hey man sorry about the no show on the couch call. My life was a bit of a blur leading up to this here vacation I am now on. Hope it doesn't cause you any more grief than it has and that it all works out well.

Either way hope all is well.

Important thingy- a friend of pygmy's husband, a local musician lady who's newspaper show-reviews had intrigued me for a while, was recently hurt badly in a fall downstairs- fractured skull and hurt spine. She'll need recovery time from work, and have medical bills. If you can give anything at all, any lil bits via Paypal or mail or whatever. please hit up the Help...

I really don't get to read as many book review articles now as I did when I was in the library... but I read a couple great ones yesterday.

Rory Stewart is a Scot who decided it'd be a good idea to walk across Afghanistan in January of 2002. He wasn't trying to be macho, and his book isn't pointedly for or against any political...

I feel kinda guilty doing a new post so soon now, since the Bookmarks...

you get the idea. I'm actually here specifically to replace the complaining Journal. I still feel those things, but at least feel the responsibility of maturity to "put it behind me and move on" (a great all-purpose phrase I learned from every athlete who's ever been arrested and asked for a...

Heurgh! Don't say 'boss' until your eyes actually watch the show. I didn't know whether to laugh or cry, because the whole thing just seemed like a giant joke...but nobody was laughing!

I'm just recently realizing it's kinda like a phobia to me. I see a bunch of things I'm not qualified for, then start feeling I'm not qualified for anything.

That's exactly what it is for me, too. I just haven't been able to put that feeling into words that succinctly.
