I've been really pessimistic and cranky this week. It might've bubbled up in Comments to some folks. Sorry.
Someone left a copy of England's Dreaming in the used bin at work. I read a few bits at work. I need to add Jordan to my Crush List... no, not Michael! The punk "model" of the '70s. I'd always liked her from her part in Jubilee, and it was interesting to find out about her background.
She was from Liverpool, and had always felt a need to dress in the most outrageous clothes possible. It was just what she needed to do. In London, the early punks tended to intimidate passersby into silence; in Liverpool, oddly enough, folks were way more conservative and tended to verbally or physically attack the new punks of 1975 and earlier. Jordan ended up getting a job in Sex, the Vivienne Westwood shop where punk... well, Malcolm McLaren's self-promotional side of punk... was born in London. It was funny how they were saying Jordan, with her hairsprayed, bouffantish hair, was a mirror image of Thatcher. Heh, it's kinda true, really... her makeup in Jubilee is pretty Aladdin Sane-looking:
(not very good pics- I had a hard time Googling pics. When I tried "Jordan model," there is apparently some big-boobed blonde chippie with the name Jordan too, and when I tried "Jordan Sex" well... not a very easy search to do... also, her real name [Pamela Rooke] returned nothing)
