I spent much of today listening to CDs. Mostly The Village Green Preservation Society. Now, I was gonna tell you all everything I thought about the Kinks.... suffice it to say I've bought/ heard maaany albums (I've also seen them live 3 times) but never really thought any was that strong front to back. I would like 4 or 5 songs on an album, but that's it. Having said that, this is a 3-CD expanded version, with mono and stereo mixes, B-sides, studio leftovers, and rarities and not only is the album-proper really good (the sound is a little dated-'60s, but it's solid melodically, and hell it was the '60s so why not?) but a lot of the leftovers are great too. All the songs seem to be either about nostalgia trips for simple British life or some wayward or slightly insane woman.
I'd write about Albert Ayler, but I'm sure that'd get even less of a response than cult Kinks albums... suffice to say I still think "Truth Is Marching In" is still the only track on his Greenwich Village album that's structured enough for me to really love, although in the right mood "For John Coltrane" hits me (this is the one [mike_blacklisted will remember] that Byron Coley defended against people who said the cellos sound like shrieking geese by quoting someone's line, "The goose is a fine bird.").

I biked... mmm, that's about it. I had dinner with friend Eric and some folks I don't really know. That was okay. NoControl and CruxPlusOne are predisposed for the weekend so... hmm, I'm not doing balls-all this weekend, I guess. Fair enough. I have a million CDs to listen to, maybe some library video and books to get to.
