I finally saw the SG episode of HBO Real Sex. I was completely not disappointed in Nic's sexy English voice, but I thought people said Missy had a Southern accent or something....? I didn't notice anything unusual in her voice. It was interesting seeing shoots in progress, such as Snow's graffiti-wall one. Is she CUTE in that or what?? And fun seeing Nic kissing every girl in sight! Am I jealous? What do you think??

Not much else going on. Just watching movies from the library, biking, typical Sunday Indian-buffet-and-British-soda-and-candy. Watched Brother from Another Planet and The Manchurian Candidate. They were both okay; if I had to choose between them, I guess I'd go with the latter. Sayles, from what I've seen so far, makes pretty lackadaisical films. You know, cutting 15 minutes off this one would've helped the pacing a lot. I'm just saying he tends to Ed-Wood it a bit here and there. Things go on for 30 seconds, or a minute, more than they need to. If that doesn't sound like much, well, okay, imagine you're watching a movie scene... now imagine the joke/ premise has been thoroughly established... okay, now count off... 1... 2.... 3... 4... keep going to 60. Or 120. You see? It's Ed Wood-level editing... but the film was okay besides that. The Manchurian Candidate was a bit odd in places, to its benefit (the brainwash scenes) and uhh to neutral effect (why did Janet Leigh's character fall in love with Sinatra's? Seriously? I mean, how "charming" was he in their initial meetings? He was going bugfuck and acting hellanervous; now, is that attractive??? Maybe that explains why I don't wow the ladies. Maybe if I stammered, stared at the floor, dropped things and knocked over tables, and acted like I was losing my mind I'd have the ladies lined up around the block. The second time she sees him, she is bailing him out of jail! Come on, now!)

Been reading more of Bill Veeck's book. Interesting; he wanted to buy the Phillies and integrate the team in 1944, 3 years before the Dodgers. His only two problems were: 1) his initial backers backed out when he refused to set a quota on the number of white players. He then found other backers, but 2) by the time he was in position to buy, the Phillies owner had gone bankrupt and ownership was turned over to the National League, who sold the team to someone else. National League President Ford Frick went around bragging in private that he had stopped "crazy" Bill Veeck from integrating baseball.
Veeck was, however, the first American League owner to integrate when he took over the Cleveland Indians. He notes that he got some hate-mail about that, then shortly after he got more hate-mail for involving the Indians in a Jewish charity, then shortly after he got more when he converted to Catholicism... and he notes that he kept seeing the same names on the letters each time. As he puts it, "I'm one man who has documentary proof that prejudice is indivisible. The jackal, after all, doesn't care what kind of animal he sinks his teeth into."
