I skipped work with what I thought were cold symptoms, but my cough went away almost immediately... pretty wimpy sick-day...
I've been reading the Barry Miles bio of Zappa. So far, no real difference from Zappa's own book... some cultural details on Italians in Baltimore and the Old Country are fleshed out. The book's intro argues that Zappa was some kind of all-American innocent child until being in jail for 10 days for making a phony "porn audio tape," after which he became disillusioned... but the following chapters seem to argue he always had a nonconformist streak, with an inability to make friends stemming from the fact that his dad was always moving the family (Baltimore, Florida, Baltimore, northern California, the CA desert, San Diego, etc etc) and a youth spent with Mexican gangs and other Californian greaser-teens.
The "porn audio tape"? Hah. Some idiot cop decided that Zappa's studio must be a den of drugs and perversion. Why? Because Zappa said he was casting a low-budget sci-fi monster movie. Obviously a front for drugs.
So they drilled a hole in the wall to film the place for weeks, wire taps, microphones, etc, and this cop decided to set up Zappa by asking him to make a porn movie. Zappa said it'd cost at least $300. The vice budget couldn't afford that... so it was agreed he'd instead make a porn audio tape (must include oral scenes!) for $100. When the case went to court, the judge was laughing hysterically at the (obviously phony) sex tape, making the prosecutor furious. Six months suspended sentence, but Frank had to go to some nasty, hot (over 100 degrees in the day), dirty (bugs in the food), overcrowded jail for 10 days.
I also have been looking at Bill Wyman's Stones-memorabilia book. Eh. So far, looks like a kinda dull Beatles Anthology knock-off to me. Wish it had more pics of swingin' '60s English girls (sigh)... only a couple of Marianne Faithfull to peruse.
I've mostly just been listening to CDs and now I feel all stoned-out from the cough medicine. My head feels like it's 20 pounds. Maybe I'll write something more interesting later, sorry.

The dental issues...it's actually a long story. Essentially, I've had to wear a prostethic piece for the last year or so...and I lost it at that party...I'll probably write a journal explaining it in more detail soon.
That is a hilarious story in the life of Mr. Zappa, not so funny as it unfolded for him I'm sure though. Reminds me of last night. I wandered by the tv and my mom was watching Orgazmo. They kept referring to a stunt cock. Hmm appears to be a Trey Parker creation. My mom thought it was ridiculous, but was laughing.
anyhow, Happy New Year!
