So I watched Vagabond (as per my other Journal, this morning, if ya missed it) and it was good. It is sad and not particularly hopeful, but it was not as much of a bummer as the last few (Closely Watched Trains, Betty Blue, Nada) because, like I said, get the protagonist killed in the first minute, then you can settle in and "enjoy" the movie.
The various people the "vagabond" Mona runs into are reciting their stories back to the narrator, who at first you figure is police, but then... the characters usually look into the camera and deliver their observations, so it's a lot more abstract.
I'm not sure what, if any, "message" I can say the film has. The character Yolande and the shepherd reflect on loneliness, so I suppose that's it... but Mona's life doesn't seem so bad... except when she's fucked over by people (the sexual assault is thankfully ungraphic) and then the whole dying thing.
I made a quiz ! ! ! ! ! Like everybody else has! Now you too can go prove you know 40% about your friends ! !
take my quiz, jerky
