This had been The Shittiest Weekend On Earth for almost 24 hours. I had a big, weird fight with a friend I've had since sixth grade (about 23 years, for your English folks). When I say the fight was about nothing, I mean I don't even want to get into how nothing it was about. One telltale sign that is was stupid was when I tried to think of the last time we had a fight this big. It was about 18 years ago in high school, when we didn't speak for a while (maybe a few months) because he thought I was too much into heavy metal and (I'm guessing; I can't remember) I was mad he was too into skateboarding. Now that is a high school argument!
...but it still makes more sense than the one we had Friday.
Friday night and yesterday, I was still stewing about it. Then I found out the SGVA party was off. I was miserable all day.
I went out for groceries. I later found my friend had apologized on my answering machine. It was a call I could have easily made earlier, and didn't. I was as much at fault as him. I called and profusely apologized... sitting here now, I can say it was the right thing, but also I should've done it earlier. This is very embarassing.
What Ozzy said to Jack in that Osbournes episode was right- it's a man who can apologize, and a wimp who can't (let's excuse the sexism, please; it was a man to man talk, after all!), and I am tearing up right now thinking about what a puss I was in not apologizing earlier to my friend, and maybe some folks will think I'm a wimp for that, I dunno. I think it's the "manliest" reaction I could have.
I certainly felt better last night than I had in the preceding 24 hours. Grudges are fucking garbage, especially over stupid misunderstandings.
About the only thing that kept me from totally fucking bumming out yesterday were the funn Comments from some of you, and reading Bill Lee's The Wrong Stuff. I would quote some of it here but... suffice to say some ballplayers get into some sex and drugs (I'm sure you're shocked). If there's one thing you all should know, it's that Don Zimmer should be referred to as "Buffalo Head," cuz he a big fuckin' moron.

I know it really sucks to have huge fights with people. I'm just glad that dweezie and I have yet to really have one. I don't know what we'd do if we did... I just know it would suck... a lot... in a bad way...
Don't beat yourself up too much over not apologizing first or earlier. These things happen.
