More car troubles.
As I said, my muffler sounded bad... well, I had just left my apartment yesterday when I was pulled over. My muffler was hanging and hitting the ground. The cop didn't ticket me, but I hadda go back, call work, catch the bus, and get a ride home from mommy last night.
I got it fixed at Midas this morning. While the muffler is free (warranty), the other pipe and repair cost me $150. I've spent like $500 on my car this week and haven't begun Xmas shopping.
I got my interlibrary copy of Bill Lee's autobio, The Wrong Stuff, which I'd read in high school, I guess. Interesting bits about baseball groupies, baseball drinking and drugging, using Red Sox contacts to get out of Vietnam and the subsequent politicking of being in various US army bases, playing winter ball in Venezuela and Puerto Rico. If you were to ask me which is better, this book or Jim Bouton's Ball Four.... that's tough. I guess Jim's... but both are great books that you DO NOT need to be a baseball fan to read.
I drank some VA Gentleman last night, just about 100 ml or so, took a cold pill to help sleep... it worked, but jeez I feel S-L-O-W today. Then again, I had another 100 ml or so a second ago. I went to a different ABC store this morning and WOW, it was the best one yet!! The selection was awesome. They had baby bottles of Knob's Creek; first time I'd ever seen that. They had a million types of bourbon. Nice store. They also had Rock & Rye; once again, never saw it before... it's quite significant to me, since it's mentioned in my favorite Grateful Dead song, "Mississippi 1/2-Step Uptown Toodle-Oo"... if you're familiar with Steely Dan's cover of "East St Louis Toodle-Oo" you'll know that a toodle-oo is a sorta ragtime-ish jazz format of song. The Dead song's chorus is:
1/2-step
Mississippi uptown.... toodle-oo
hello, baby, I'm gone, goodbye
half a cup of Rock & Rye
fairwell to you, old Southern skies
I'm on my way
on my way...
The countar lady told me it's good for colds if you warm it. I'd gotten a small bottle and she said, "The large bottle is better for colds; it has lemon in it." I went and looked, and sure enough- they have lemon halves soaking in the bottom. Huh. Well, I still got the small bottle (I can buy a lemon, thanks) and... it'll be interesting to see how this drink goes down. It is 50 proof, so it has much more alcohol than beer but much less than bourbon.
Anyway, I'm just sitting here all spacey listening to the Cramps. Welcome, work-free Friday.

I do have photos, rather, Neel has them. His computer just went to the big Sony in the Sky, so it will be a few more days before I can score them.
