So, what did I do lately?

Saw some movies.

Secretary (second time) -- I was a bit disappointed, in that the first time you watch it it is definitely a suspense movie... I mean, you have no idea what is gonna happen next, which is so exciting and scary and fun and gripping. This time, I knew pretty much everything that was gonna happen, so it was less fun... but it's still kick-ass. I mean, Spader and Gyllenhaal just kill.

101 Reykjavik -- This has to be the most sex-obsessed movie I'm seen since... I dunno, a porno? Showgirls? I daresay it is better than a porno, or Showgirls (sorry, miss_lady, s'truth). It's the funny story of this nerdy guy who, surprise, has tons of sex anyway in this little dive bar in Reykjavik where, basically, everybody's been with everybody (I think he refers to it as a "VD waiting room," at one point)... so, who should come into his dull existence collecting unemployment and neglecting his semi-girlfriend while living with his mom? I'll tell you who

VICTORIA FUCKING ABRIL

that's who, The Hottest Latina In History (please, no J-Lo references, folks). Then, things proceed to get strange, then stranger.
The cutest thing about the film is that there's this goofy synth-ska version of "Lola" (I'm pretty sure the soundtrack is by... Damon Albarn) that keeps coming on, because Abril's character is named Ray Davies... oops, I mean Lola, sorry.
It's not The Greatest Film Ever, but it is a good sleazy, funny film, and allz I can say about Miss Abril is yay that she is so -unabashed- in the world o' films.

Envy -- The reason for my revival of the Black Profile pic is seeing Mr. Black be yet again the funniest-wacko in the movies. Envy ain't the funniest film (Levinson films are usually a bit lethargic, don't you think? I mean, when they don't sugk outright.) but I had a few laughs... had to admit, Walken finally changed gears on his typical mental-patient thing with an engaging new Walken-nut role. Sadly, Amy Poehler in here is nowhere near her comedic on-fire appearance in Wet Hot American Summer... and uh, Rachel Weisz plays Stiller's wife.... yeah, that Rachel Weisz.... weird. Well, bless her for trying some... decent comedy. It's decent. Do not regret my $6.50.

In other news -- a weirdness which I don't want to discuss.

That's it.

edit ps, after midnight -- Oh, and btw, the new computer is very, very fuckin' fast compared to the old one. I don't even think I'll need cable internet anymore... I'm starting to be very glad my old Dell crap motherboard fried out.

I just got your email! blush

Thanks. This whole almost-graduating-from-undergratuate-school thing is putting me through the existential crisis wringer, so I've been too busy. They want me to decide what to do with the rest of my life? Now? I'll get an internship involved in the social services, I guess.

miss_lady:
I just love Showgirls for the delicious sexual tension between Saved By the Bell and That Woman with the Lips. And for the choreography. And Kyle MacLachlan. And the pool. And the overall kitsch-value of it. Oh hell, I just love the movie for countless reasons.

I'll look for 101 Reykjavik maybe tonight. Inspires me to leave you with a Bjork quote, which may be slightly tweaked in my memory because it refers to the time period of the Sugarcubes, and what the band did for fun. It was something like "We don't really have 'dates' in Iceland. We just get drunk and have hardcore sexing." Guess what has been my catch-phrase for about 10 years now?
