This has to be the first time in history I've come into my workplace two days in a row when I didn't have to work.

I must really miss my online friends...

My PC is going to get major renovations... which sucks, as (with all the money I've loaned my sister) money is finally getting tight for me. GACK. I hope my rent-check doesn't bounce; I'm sure that's a beauty for one's "credit rating." blackeyed

What really sucks is not the money, though, it's not being able to write to everyone...

Here is, finally, abit more for your enjoyment; it's an excerpt of a short Chris Rock interview in a recent Rolling Stone (aka That Wack Olde Rock Magazine) that I originally mentioned in DragonflyCQ's Journal and had xeroxed to show Tryst but forgot. Regardless of all the weak movies he's done lately ('fes up, they're weeeeak), Chris does great stand-up and hits this interview outta the park... so here's something for you 'til.... Boognish knows when I'll be back on SG regularly:

RS: I'm surprised by the near-apathy of popular artists to what's going on in the world right now.

Chris Rock: Can you believe there is no Rage Against the Machine? There is no Public Enemy? There's no Arrested Development? No one is talking about anything. Nobody young gives a fuck. The only people that even mention that there is a fucking war are, like, me and Al Franken? It's a fucking sad time for art. Art is dead, man.

RS: Especially since now the right song can make a difference before the election and maybe put a catchphrase in people's heads.

CR: There is not one record on the radio that reflects anything that is going on, except for the guy, what's his name? ... Toby Keith, I mean. I don't agree with those guys. But I respect them, because at least they're fucking dealing with what's going on -- in their own crazy right-wing way.
We've got AIDS, SARS and all this shit going on. All these dead dolphins rolled up on some beach the other day. We are at fucking war, people are fucking broke, mothers are killing their kids, and the welfare thing is going on. And everyone is singing, "Everybody in the club getting tipsy." It's fucking insane.

RS: I would guess you aren't pro-Bush, then.

CR: I'm just not for war. Whoever the president is, I have an open mind when they come in. In my lifetime, no matter who is president, Harlem is Harlem and Compton is Compton.

I've never actually been to Bohager's. They just don't seem to sponsor the kind of events I enjoy.

I agree with Chris Rock, and I don't.

I agree that more artists need to be saying something of value and weight. And right now, our mainstream musical acts aren't even interested in making their music political, or taking a chance and speaking their mind.

However, their are plenty of band doing just that. You'll just never hear anything about them.

When MTV, and corporate radio rules the msuic industry, you'll never get to hear someone say something that might upset the status quo.

Of course, I've never really liked overly-political music acts to begin with...I think most bands corner themselves into being "political" artists, and suddenly they lose the range of emotions and thoughts that an artists in generally allowed to express through their work. But I admire people like Public Enemy for having such a strong message, and never losing focus of that message.

But I digress...

It's funny; sometimes I wish I could go to work on the weekends, just to use the computer, as well. It's an addiction, man! smile
