I've written so little lately due to two things, mostly:

1) watching movies

2) still feeling sick, post-flu sickness

The former comes from an Xmas gift, a DVD player. The latter means that this week I still feel wiped out. I took off from work Monday, and did nothing 'til about 6 that night. Yesterday, my dept manager gave me today off, figuring I might need the rest. She was right. I got a renewed sick feeling last night, like I had on Xmas morning, and just have no energy today.

DVD news:

Wet Hot American Summer - I mis-read the box ages back. It doesn't have 5 hours of bonus footage; it has five hours of features, meaning if you look at everything, every behind-scenes clip and audio-track, it will add up to five hours. It has only 12 minutes of actual deleted scenes... but they are great. It has a bonus audio track which is the regular audio plus a bunch of fart noises. It's okay this way, but I think they coulda matched up the farts to the visual actions in each scene a bit better. At one point, whoever is making the sounds (probably Showalter and Wain) starts banging on a can for no reason for half a minute.

Freddy Got Fingered - I thought I'd read that the audio "laugh track" was canned laughter put in at random, inappropriate moments. That would have been funny... but sadly, the DVD only has an actual laugh track from the movie premiere in Los Angeles. I still love this film. The part during "Microphone Fiend," where Rip Torn is... shall we say, totally getting down, is among my fave movie scenes of recent years.

Gerry - This is going to be a spoiler review, since I totally hated this movie. It is very, very dull. Some of you might wonder if I'm a movie snob, since I tend to champion art films... Gerry is a really, really bad art film.
I'm going to describe the entire movie right now, to give you an idea how much action is in it:

Matt Damon and Casey Affleck drive to a hiking park in the desert. They walk; they don't talk much. They get lost, with no food or water. Beside a fire one night, Casey pretends to be an ancient Greek military leader. They walk more; they don't talk much. They look for a high hill to find the way back to their car. Casey climbs on a rock that is too high for him to easily get down, so Matt shoves some dirt together for him to jump down into. They walk more; they don't talk at all. There is much pretty cloud footage. They walk more; they don't talk at all. Casey starts hallucinating that Matt is beside him when Matt is really many yards away. They walk more. Casey collapses. They joke about their bad luck. Matt strangles Casey to death, apparently sad that Casey is dying of thirst (although no real explanation is given). Matt finds a road and gets a ride from a family in a station wagon. The end.

I remember coming up with a "stars" grade for the movie last night, 1/2 a star. I remember that 1/4 of a star was for the pretty clouds footage; I forget what the other 1/4 star was for... perhaps for having Casey instead of Ben? Haha, I'm jumping on the Ben-Affleck-hating bandwagon...

I aint really feeling Tim Burton lately. Maybe I'm just sick of remakes and the position of "playing it safe" in any setting. I'm seriously debating on getting rid of my DVD, VHS, and the units that play them. Movies aren't doing anything for me. I just don't have the desire to WATCH any movie. Especially after seeing previews. This wasn't an issue when I was in high school. I'd watch anything I could get my hands on. Is this strange?
