As I said, not much goin on right nowIll try to get whatever news I can out of my last few days.
Friday- weather turned crummy. Rain to sleet to snow. Jimmy never called about lunch; instead, met Eric. We bought snow/ice equipment from the local hardware store, Village Hardware, with the cat, Stormy. I finally heard someone mention Stormys gender; hes a he. Eric n I played pool at the Village Wharf, which is much cheaper than these pool-chains popping up now. (ps- Its not really a village area; its a strip-mall.)
Saturday- It didnt snow much. Did laundry. Watched most of 2001:A Space Odyssey again. I can see why some people dont like the film; the human characters are pretty flat, and HAL really is the most vibrant character, even with a virtually emotionless voice. I still think its a visually arresting film (it was in letterbox) although (Sacrilege Alert) it could be shortened/ tightened up considerably. Sometimes, having things be drawn out creates drama/ suspense; sometimes, its just freakin dull.
Saturday night I got some library-CD-burning done; finally have all the stuff I like from the last four Johnny Cash CDs and Transformer. I missed the boat on Perfect Day in the 80s, and when Trainspotting came out, but now I recognize its great, as is the demo version. Also, I used the Peel Sessions free-MP3s site mentioned in the Music Board; great stuff by the Aislers, Preston School, Malkmus, Godspeed, Mogwai.
Sunday- Watched football in Richmond with Mike. I dont get much outta watching games alone anymore, but its fun with someone. Mikes baby Sammy seems much better now that they have him off of milk, which gave him vicious rashes. He still has some rashes, which theyre going to a doctor about this week.
Monday- Mikes sister Suzie told me she got a house; funny, Mike didnt mention that. She has three sons and was living at her moms (which is pretty small) so this is good. Suzie also told me that Mike kept saying that Sammy seemed slow or retarded which he also did not tell me. I didnt notice anything. The kids only 6 months or so. Sammy doesnt smile much, but if Id had his skin problems I wouldnt smile much either.
Driving around, I listened to Decoration Day, further appreciating that its the best album of 2003, and CDs from Jilly (Live at Helens, NZ comp) and Estrada (I like Lush, the Pale Saints, n Stereolab; Pizzicato 5, I never have gotten into too genteel or something).
I packed up my X-Mas giff (Snoop Dogg pronunciation; Santa Claus Is Coming Straight to the Ghetto being one of my favorite X-Mas songs*) for Jilly and played ping pong with Eric again. Had lots of Mexican at El Charro againwhich was okay, but then drank too much eggnog again last night. Much like a junkie, I shouldnt be trusted with entire quarts of eggnog.
