Facts n Quizzes

I have a lot of lil factlets around from work; they've actually been stockpiling through my bum-outs and movie-viewing wink not to mention workin' on Saturday... so here is the lowdown on an event from 1800s America. The source is The Great Fire: Chicago 1871 by Kogan and Cromie, which I'm paraphrasing:

The Great Chicago Fire raged for approximately 29 hours, during which $192,000,000 worth of property was destroyed. Only 120 bodies were recovered, although estimates of the dead ran as high as 300. 73 miles of streets were swept by flames, which destroyed 17,500 buildings and made 100,000 Chicagoans homeless. Some killed themselves because of financial losses. Millionaires became paupers overnight, and at least 56 insurance companies in 10 states went bankrupt as a result of claims.
A macabre coincidence, still not widely known a century later, is that on October 9th, the day after the Chicago holocaust began, a river of fire roared out of the woods near the lumber town of Peshtigo, Wisconsin, and killed 1,152 people.

Some quiz questionssome would call them Questions Of The Day, but Ill leave em up as long as it takes to get a pool of respondents (I'll probably throw in updates above, though)

1. What are some science-fiction shows/ movies/ books that you like? What are some that you dont like? (the Why? should be implicit, folks!)
2. What are some horror shows/ movies/ books that you like? Dislike? (and Whyyyyy?!?!?)

The words "Great Chicago Fire" are connected to the synapses in my brain that remember Gilda, so right now I am singing:

When Mrs. O'Leary's cow kicked the lantern-in Chicago town,
They say that started the fire that burned Chicago down.
That's the story that went around, but here's the real lowdown
Put the blame on Mame, boys,
put the blame on Mame.
Mame kissed a buyer from out of town,
that kiss burned Chicago down.
So you can
put the blame on Mame, boys,
put the blame on Mame.

Re Fifteen: No, it was a bad teenage soap opera that aired on Nickelodeon from 1991-1993. I loved it, and I knew it was bad, but I still loved it. It was AWESOME. I loved those crazy kids at Hillside High. Almost all of the actors were Canadian, but they filmed in Orlando, and I often got to sit in and watch tapings of various episodes because of my dad's job (travel writing -- close connections with various Universal and Disney assholes), and did you know that Melissa Joan Hart used to be live next door to my friend Byron? He says that kids made fun of her for having a wonky eye.
