Important thingy- a friend of pygmy's husband, a local musician lady who's newspaper show-reviews had intrigued me for a while, was recently hurt badly in a fall downstairs- fractured skull and hurt spine. She'll need recovery time from work, and have medical bills. If you can give anything at all, any lil bits via Paypal or mail or whatever. please hit up the Help Lauren K Newman website that's been set up. There's a benefit show a week from today in Portland that I hope to work at.
Had much funn Wednesday meeting howdypardner (hi, bellisima!) and goin to see Anthony Bourdain at the very-crowded Heathman Hotel. Kinda hard to summarize, since it was mostly question-n-answer, but he read a chapter from his new book on being disappointed at fancy cuisine being added to London pubs that should just serve Guinness. He said "Vegetarians shouldn't even be allowed in pubs. They're frail, weak, and not likely to be able to back up their social opinions with physical force," or somethin like that. He was talking about his hardest food experience in his travels, and it was some African country (wish i could recall which) whose tribesmen served him a lot of dirt-baked warthog... specifically, the portions of the large intestine considered the most honorable to guests. Said Anthony, "For 3 days, everything I ate had either fur, sand or shit in it."
Had a great time at the Thurs cookout last night. You all who are regulars know who you are. I accidentally ate some habanero on a kebab; it made my beer seem like sweet napalm for about 5 minutes. Most folks left before midnight, when I really started feeling the mandolin-rocking-out to Lou Reed and Mott the Hoople songs... then around 1, perennial-late-shifter themanmachine wanted us all to go to Dino's Inn, but I figured I'd save my strip-club-debut for something, oh, waaay way nicer!! Sorry, MM!
Cote D'Ivoire breaks my heart! Two great games, and they already have nothing to show but early plane reservations home. Tomorrow is the "big" USA match, vs. Italy. Who will I root for? Well, contrary to what one might think, my progressivism doesn't naturally lead to total anarchic hateful traitorism. Heck, I think I've pulled for many Olympic Americans in this very Journal... however, I think one would have to be nuts to think the US will win. I've read in the past about the soccer abilities of Italian children, much less the experienced adult players. Your average 8-year-old Milanese street-urchin could probably serve you a 5-course dinner with his feet and never get it dirty. (Translation- dey dribble ball real fuckin good.)
Hope to see howdypardner tonight for some Burgertime and Galaga, and many of last night's folks at Mikael's band's bar debut tomorrow, and Pride Parade - hansel n Eddie? Perhaps also it's time for a return to hypnogogic and pdxMatt's thingy Sunday... and somebody buy my freakin couch! It's gonna be evicted. :^/
ps - I changed up my fave SGs again. I hope to soon do a list of my fave things about all the SGs on my Friends list.
