I can prove now that I'm not one of those types who likes things just because they are weird. Not that anyone's accused me of that- yet. But anyway, I can prove otherwise.

I was taping one of my faves, Tom Goes to the Mayor, and finally sat down and watched Perfect Hair Forever (a Pavement reference? I'm not sure) and 12 oz. Mouse.

PHF is as deliberately weird a show as is going to be on TV. It isn't very good. None of it made any sense, and I was amused at a couple points but never laughed per se, and the show really has no focus or dadaist gestalt.

12oM was almost as weird but at times attempted to have a storyline, standard comedic devices, and seemed a bit more in-tune with how cartoons on MTV's old Liquid Television were; in short, it was slightly more normal, and the better for it. I wouldn't quite say it was good, or it all made sense, though.

I can say why I like TGttM, if anyone cares- the stilted dialogue and static animation are the culture of the show. The former reminds me of Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman, and the latter I just find visually funny. There's also the comic violence, governmental incompetence, crude jokes, and satire of various things.

Those other shows, though, just seem to flail blindly at weirdness. They need to focus... or if not focus, just... be funnier.

Also- Ranger Smith *sigh* yet another "edgy" take off on cute animal cartoons. See, cartoon animals are usually cute, but here, they aren't..... wow.... I'm thrilled.... next....

ps- Yes, I know it's a crummy Journal entry.

The only Adult Swim I really try to go out of my way to watch is the Boondocks.
