There's some good articles in The New York Review of Books again. 1) "The Truth About Colleges" talks about Ivy League admissions, but also some interesting stats through the article (check out "Table B" showing which colleges' professors ranked highest according to students), 2) "The Lost Children of AIDS" looks at AIDS funding in Africa, particularly for orphans of dead parents. It compares the multi-million, Oprah-plugged HOPE aid organization to the poor, local Sizanani one (guess which looks better?), 3) "Playing Music: The Lost Freedom" compares the past (when, for instance, all housewives knew how to play the piano) to the present, where most music performances are recordings (I haven't really read that one yet), 4) "Torture in Iraq" looks at bad stuff done by the military (also hadn't read it; frankly, I feel put off by all things Iraq now... it's not like we can do anything about it).
