Forgive me for the rambling incoherence that is guaranteed to be the content of this post. I just finished catching up with an old friend of mine, one of my favorite persons in this world, and alcohol was involved. I am trying to sober up even a small amount before sleeping, as I find it makes for a speedier recovery the next day. I am trying to think of my favorite people in this world as I write this. It might go as follows:
1) My sister.
2) The person in the room across from me right now.
3) The person I caught up with tonight.
Who are your favorite people?
Regardless. I am an aspiring academic, and as an academic I have a profile on a website called academia.edu. It's a pseudo-Facebook-ish type of place for faculty and lifetime students and, well, I'm not sure what else it's supposed to be. But one of the features of the site is that it tracks how many people have been looking at your profile, as well as who has been searching for you on the internet (and what terms they used to find you). I find it all very interesting, in an obviously self-indulgent narcissistic way. This graph represents the number of people looking at my profile over the last month:
These are not mind-boggling numbers. What I find mind-boggling is that anyone would be interested in me at all, at least at an academic level.
What an odd world this is. I have so many stories to tell you.
