I watched one of my favorite movies, "Runaway Train," on DVD the other day, and then read what some critics had to say about it. One comment was that it was "too allegorical and philosophical" at times. What?? Are the only good movies, if we follow this critic's line of reasoning, movies made for morons?
It's no secret that many movies are made with two endings: an insightful, hard hitting version for foreign audiences, and a dumbed down one for USA audiences. When we buy a DVD, we look for the director's cut so we can see the movie the way the director originally intended it to be seen. Why couldn't we have seen the director's cut in the original theater release? Are we too stupid?
Of course, when I look at recent political developments--I've answered my own question.
