My favourite book is American psycho written by the excellent Bret Easton Ellis.
I love this book, read it many times and everytime I read it I always find something new.
It's about a guy in his late 20's named Patric Bateman, Patric has everything; good looks,intelligence,riches but he lack something he lacks empathy he lacks morales and he hides this under a thick mask. He seems normal ; he has a job, a girlfriend, he goes to fancy dinners but there's something unusual about him he sort of yeah well humm kills people. In the book you meet his everyday life which at first glance seems pretty boring and then the occasional murder here and there. What makes this book so good is just that ; the fact that its written in pure realism and the murders are expressed without any emotion, they just happen.
Patric is a narcissistic psychopath and throughout the book he realizes that he can't control himself anymore, he's saying that he's loosing his grip on reality and that he just blends in so well that no one believes that he could actully do the deeds he does.
I dont want to spoil too much but read it, seriously read it.
