So I finally saw Dark Shadows. I have to say, I was actually impressed, and had a great time watching it. It's funny, clever, and captures the melodrama and occasional overacting of the original series wonderfully. The plot sort of meanders a bit, but then that can be expected from a movie created from a daily soap opera with over one thousand episodes.
Definitely not a movie to be taken seriously, but at the same time, not one to be written off as a simple parody or joke movie either, as it isn't to the original show what the Brady Bunch movies were to the Brady Bunch show, it doesn't mock the dated aspects of its original TV run, but does take its original seriousness and drama in good humor and fun without losing its grip on the story or its characters.
It isn't the original show though, and I can see how fans of the original may not be able to stand it, but I would definitely see it again, and it's nice to see a more classic vampire on screen again, instead of over-emotional basket cases, glittery teenagers, or gun toting leather fetishists.

The show was very serious, melodramatic, and overacted. There were also a tonne of bloopers, forgotten lines, set mishaps, etc, that made it to air because of cheap budgets and single takes. That being said, it's no wonder to me that Burton and Depp chose to make it a comedy.
Still, from what I've seen of the show, I definitely want to see more
