Went to Paganfest 2012 tonight (well, yesterday technically
)
Fucking AWESOME show, there were some really badass bands there, some I knew, some I didn't, one of which completely caught me by surprise and smacked me upside the head with their coolness.
Missed the very first band, a local band that I heard sucked donkey penis, so no loss there.
Arrived while band two, another local band, Phalgeron, was onstage. For local guys, I was pleasantly surprised, and would definitely see them again
Following them was the first band on the Paganfest lineup, Huntress. Gotta tell ya, though the frontwoman REALLY needs to put some meat on her bones (she looked like the wind could knock her over), man does that girl have some pipes live
Next was Arkona. OMGs! This is the band that took me by surprise! Russian pagan folk metal, the frontwoman is like five foot nothing, can sing, shout, and snarl like a pro, has bundles of energy, and came out rocking a wolf pelt! Her english wasn't the greatest when she talked to the crowd, but her accent was adorable and the band's music was excellent. They even have a flute/bagpipe player
After Arkona was the band I had come to see, the True Scottish Pirate Metalers, the Bacon Powered Pirate Core band Alestorm. I wasn't let down. And of course, there were quite a few Pirates there to see them
After their set, dude even sang the Frasier ending track, in honor of Seattle haha
And last, but hardly least, was the Paganfest headliner, Turisas. Another band I had heard little of before the show, they were quite a good band, and I'd definately see them again. They have some very devoted fans, there were quite a few people who showed up in scale mail armor, animal hide, and red and black face paint
Of honorable mention is Ex Deo, a band I REALLY wanted to see, who dropped out of the tour last minute
Look forward to seeing them live one of these days, though being a side project band, I have no idea when that might be
