Back to the UK now, I'll be catching up and posting pictures over the week.

Still no pictures here, still editing but I'll give you a rundown of the places I went:

LA: Oh the insanity! I met up with my good friend elfin there who showed me around all the cool places to hang out in LA. Which makes them pretty much the coolest places I've been too. I loved the wide variety of excellent food available, I ate ramen most days for lunch, we camped out on the remnants of her living room floor which had recently been destroyed by catastrophic floods, we went to hideously expensive Whiskey bars decorated in the style of a millionairs hunting mansion/club (including dark wooden furniture, excellent billard tables and massive antlers, which, naturally, was playing the Ramones), we went to digital restaurants were you order by touchscreen, and which had overhead projected, 6 player table pong, I had a Weibier on Venice Beach, saw mass drumming circle there with all sorts of urban cultures, from (wannabe?) gang members to hippies etc. etc. I loved the relaxed atmosphere in the city, that was completely contrary to what I had expected. LA makes you feel cool by just being there.
The city is also insane in terms of scope a half hour car drive is "close".

San Francisco:
Where LA epitomizes the American city to me, SF had a distinctively European feel to it. Incredibly dense. I was only there for a day and a half, and missed most of pride weekend by a hair, the city is fantastically beautiful, unless you turn the wrong corner, then you get lovely scenes like two young girls commenting a street fight between bums with random people shouting across the street with an enthusiastic: "I love the ghetto".

Morelia:
Beautiful city in Mexico. Awesome atmosphere. Very touristy, met some great friends, my stomach couldn't handle the food. Fun.

Mexico City:
Now here is insanity, my Mexican friends basically advised me to not leave the hotel, take a taxi and you get kidnapped ("now it's not 100% certain that it will happen to you, but...") or to walk. We dared it and so some amazing sights in the few days we had. The center looks marvelous, the anthropological museum is among the most impressive museums I've ever been in. but these flecks of beauty are awash in a see of poverty and dirt. We went to teotihuacan by bus, now you've probably heard of the surrounding slums, the half finished houses, the sheds and mere plastic planes that people live in. But to drive through that in person for me was an entirely different story. What most struck me was that these were not like the homeless poor people living in a rich or at least ok city. Here the entire context the entire area is this poverty. These are settlings called, I believe, lost cities (Ciudades perdidas) in the context and surroundings of this sprawling hive, inundated by material poverty, that each individually would make a large city in Germany.

Boston:
Boston is stoke full with interesting intelligent people who like to party, and party well.

New York:
Only two days, not enough time at all, but it was great fun to just walk all over Manhattan and soak in the atmosphere, I ended up at a Burlesque show for cheap.
The city is vertical. I know it is a cliche, but it is also true. This little European boy was really impressed by all the tall buildings, kind of makes you forget which way's up.
Went to the Met bought German susages for my friend in Boston, etc.

Trip back: since I had to fly out of boston at 6am we decided to party the night through. Then my connection in JFK was cancelled after a long delay, then the flight they booked me on instead was delayed by another 3 hours, but eventually with almost a day worth of delay I made it home on Tuesday late afternoon, at that point I had basically barely slept since Saturday.
Sleep deprivation is an awesome drug.

Anyway that knocked meout for this week, next week more fun as I'm moving, and then it appears that Wacken looms large... (in between I need to squeeze in a significant amount of work.... eek!)
