My Differently Abled Self

So I decided since my profile pic is of me and you're probably wondering what's up with the mask situation. I'll get to that later, but first I'll tell you about my challenging, but manageable situation.

I was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy at the age of three. It's something I was born with. If you are unaware, it is a neuromuscular disease that affects only males. Wwhat happens is the body doesn't produce enough dystropin or there's a genetic mutation that prevents the body from producing dystrophin. Basically what this means is the muscles of the body weaken over time until they no longer function, concluding with the heart. Sounds pretty fuckin scary right? I can't lie,; sometimes it is.

Most boys walk until they're around twelve or thirteen. but on tiptoes because our calf muscles are contracted, so basically our calves look swol as fuck. Because of the contractions our heels don't touch the ground, hence the tiptoeing. We obviously fall a lot because it's hard to balance on tiptoes. By the time we can no longer walk, we tend to embrace the wheelchair, especially when it's a power chair. We regain our freedom and it's actually a nice feeling. Of course there's plenty of new challenges, but I've been fortunate enough to have a supportive family and friends to help guide me through the tough times.

Now, at 32, the only real mobility I have left is in my hands, but not my arms. I can also move my head around and can move my legs a little bit. Really all I can do is manipulate a mouse and drive my wheelchair. Getting back to my mask, or as I like to call it, my Bane mask or Darth Vader helmet. You may recognize it as a CPAP mask, which it is, but what I use is a BiPAP. The difference between them is that a biPap offers inhalation and exhalation (basically breathing for me) whereas a CPAP is just inhalation and you have to exhale. This BiPAP is the most important medical device ever because it is prolonging the lives of so many guys and is something I use 24/7. Our life expectancy used to be 21 now I know a guy who's fifty and doing great.

So it's not all bad news. And hey, my dick works at least! This site provides such a great service for people like me who don't often get to see beautiful naked ladies, let alone date any or get laid. Unlike most guys, we can't just go somewhere and meet or go home with somebody. I know on this site I can be myself and be accepted. All most women see is the wheelchair and the mask and they think that's all there is to me and that's far from the truth. I'm a laid back shy guy who likes to the go out to eat, drink, party, watch tv and movies, and read and write.

Thank you for reading this long-winded blog, if you've gotten this far. If you have any questions, I'm an open fucking book.

You’re stronger than a lot of people out there, myself included. And you’re attitude about it should be commended, because your outlook and attitude are great.

Thank you. I do struggle, though. I'm in a particularly rough patch at the moment.
