I have returned to the DC area to interview for a teaching job, which I did last Thursday all in all I think it went great and my salary required is reasonable and negotiable. So I am keeping my fingers crossed. So much has happened on the job search front since I went home to the Great Lake State.
First I went home to Mi because my Mom was sick and had been in the hospital do to a complication that came with a change in her medicine-she has epilepsy-and she had also lost a lot of weight. By the time I had got home she was not in the hospital proper, but was at a rehab facility. I hadn't heard much on the job front, though I had a feeling things would come around soon. I went home figuring I could check on my folks and regroup. I have to admit if felt an awful lot like giving up and going home with my tail between my legs. On the drive back I got a call from a friend of my whom I used to play flag football with out in Maryland (back when a brother had health insurance). She had noticed my facebook statuses that I was looking into getting my masters in education and teaching again. She had worked in an independant school, but left a few months ago. It turned out that she was working for a group call the Black Student Fund and they were trying to get black educators in touch with independent schools. I guess the independent schools in the area were having a hard time finding black educators to help them keep a diverse faculty, so they asked the Black Student Fund to for help. She put me in touch with here co-director and I sent my information in and did a SKYPE interview, by the way I am on skype now
so I am now availible via SKYPE before you know it I may even be TWEETING
.
While in Michigan I got an email from the school I just interviewed with this past Thursday and a job offer from the Naval Shipyard in Maine. First I get layed off at the beginning of the recession, and a year of off and on contract work. Now my cup runneth over, sort of
.
More on all of that later. I going to be meeting up with a few of my old coworkers for dinner soon.
I found this the other day.
