So what happened to my blog from Saturday, well kids I did type a blog entry, while watching some college basketball. I finished the entry and being destracted I closed the window before actually submitted the entry. I was already running late to meet up with the DC area MSU Alumni to watch the game at alumni bar. Of course I am typing this while I listen/watch the state of the union address.
So Saturday marked the end the Saga of selling my beloved 1999 Mazda Protege', "Scooter" (I don't know if it is a guy thing or a midwest thing, but I always thought if you love your car you name your car). I call it a saga because the process started way back in October shortly after I had to buy a new car (or as we used to say in grad school "new to me" car). The original plan was to trade in Scooter when I picked up my Subaru, only to find out that even though I had my car registered in the state of VA. I either never got it titled in the state or the title was somehow lost. So I had to try to track down my title. Eventually I had to call my dad to see if he could track it down at my old bank back in Michigan. Though because I paid the car off years ago there was slim chance that the bank was still holding a copy. I did eventually figure out that the state of Michigan had a copy. Ah but here is the rub..the state of Michigan does not allow you to obtain a copy of a vehicle title online or over the phone, so I would have to go to Michigan just to get the copy. Instead I sent my pops to go a see if he could get a copy for me. First he had to mail me some forms to name him my agent who could act on my behalf. Here it gets fun, what we didn't know was that apparently this also meant titling the car in his name, essentially giving him my car. So the Michigan title he sent me was in his name, but we had thought ahead and he filled out the forms to authorize any sale of Scooter (let me just say Iove my folks anytime my brother or sisters or myself need them they come through
maybe not as fast as they use to but hey it is all good). So I get to the title and paperwork and head to CarMax to get my car appraised. So last thursday I headed to DMV to once again get a VA title and make sure the process in done properly, only to have them tell me I had to pay taxes on my car. At this time I tried to explain that the car was mine and I was just getting a VA title so I could trade the car in. Leaving out the complete details of the whole exchange it worked out that to save me have to pay taxes on the car they gave me even more forms ot fill out (yay!) and take to a notary to certify the car was a gift. I don't know why I needed the notary all she did was watch me sign forms. So Saturday I sold my car to CarMax which was thankfully easy.
So it was an end of an era and I said goodbye to Scooter a car I had since grad school. If you I was a kinda sad to see her go.

. Hope she goes to someone you can use her.
I also recently went to the DC tattoo festival and it was awesome I didn't get any new ink, but I did find a local tattoo parlour where I may get some work done.
