Bummer night. Didn't get to see my friend. Missed all but 2 songs of her show, the one I WANTED to see. Was unfortunate enough to catch ALL of The Strokes, hoping to see her after the show...no luck.
And The Strokes are FUCKING AWFUL.
AWFUL
AWFUL
AWFUL
AWFUL
AWFUL
AWFUL.
I have never been so bored at a show in my entire life. I've seen my share of shitty bands, but at least in small clubs you can go to the bar and flirt while the band sucks. Nope. We were stuck in arena seats, watching some guys jerk off their instruments and watching the push in the GA pit. All ages, so not even any booze to numb the suckiness.
God, I feel old. I simply don't understand the appeal of The Strokes. But the place was packed. The kids sure like it. I felt like I stepped into an episode of That 70's Show or The O.C. The kids were all skinny and morose. I'm surprised there wasn't a myspace hangout lounge or something. Do I not understand the Stroke's music because I'm just beyond the generational appeal? Is this what my parents went through when I fell in love with Motley Crue, Guns and Roses and (god forgive me) New Kids on the Block? Am I looking at kids with the same confused bewilderment "how can you like that shit?" as my parents?
Uh oh.
No, whatever. Our music rocked. Even our parents' music was decent. The strokes have some hooks. That's all they got.
*sigh*

Yeah, sometimes I think of post-punk as Cheap Trick without the fun. That's only when I'm riffing on it, though.
