I have a long history of being an erratic poster with blogs, for very little reason beyond "You know what, I just couldnt be fucked."

But that, for once, isnt the reason. Last couple of times I posted I was being very angry and negative, and my situation then (woo crushing unemployment) wasnt really going to get any better; so in a rare moment of clarity I thought I'd avoid becoming "that guy" as much as possible, and just not post for a while.

I still threw in the odd comment here and there, and I thought Id better look after the topics I post instead of wandering off, leaving them to fend for themselves. Im particularly pleased that the Lifestyle board isnt being cluttered up with truly horrific articles anymore.
pascipio:
The biggest difference is that the head of the government in the US is not just the leader of the majority party.

Elections are held every year. These are local and state elections. Every two years, the entire House of Representatives is up for election. Senators hold six year terms, so roughly one third are up every two years.

The Senate has far more power than Lords. If the Senate does not like a bill passed by the House, it will just ignore it. A bill cannot be sent to the President to sign if the House and Senate bills are not exactly the same.

You vote for a candidate, not a party, though this is changing. I could vote party line in Texas, but more people are starting to vote by party affiliation than the candidate. This is due to the hyper partisan nature of the President, and the remarkable party unity of the GOP.

I had trouble explaining this while I was in England.
