I feel like ranting a little so ignore everything after this unless you're really bored.
I don't mind being a technician at a University. I enjoy teaching and helping those who want/need it. Then you have this niche of PhDs who thinks he/she shits gold. I don't care who you are in life. You might be the bum on the corner or you might be Donald Trump. At the end of day when what you do has nothing to do with who you are and how you act to your fellow man, don't be crying like a bitch cause someone knocked you the fuck out for being a self absorbed asshole. I can say "Fuck you" to this guy's face til the end of time and he still wouldn't get it. This guy has a PhD in computer science and yet doesn't understand a single concept about hardware. A $300 e-machine from some place like costco is NOT the same as $3000 storage array and I'm not pointing out cost difference here. I'm pointing the fact that if you want to be a fireman. A green garden hose is only gunna get you so much water.
A lot of these, and not all mind you, upper academic types are so full of themselves. And maybe even partly so for the cats who are running game at places like MIT, Harvard, Stanford, Brown, etc. However when you teach at my piddly little U, any recognition you get makes you an average fish in an aquarium. Not a swordfish in the ocean. A little bit a humble goes a long way. Understand that support staff exist for YOUR SUPPORT. Not to be lied to and treated like "the help. just because you're insecure in your own place in the world.
