Well, more of a comment than an answer...
Perhaps some friends are not so much controlling or judgemental as they are simply concerned? Would a friend be a friend if they let someone else act stupidly or in ways that eventually hurts them or even their friendship and/or respect? I know perhaps that is the time to just move on, but I know we all like to cling to our friends at times too. I think all friends who really are good friends, also know their friends very well and can possibly see what decisions may end up being good or bad decisions. Obviously, expressing that opinion should be welcomed in a constructive way, and if the "advice" is decidedly not followed, then everyone should still just live with that and move on. But I think a friend who speaks up about someone or expresses a different opinion should not be completely throw out, deemed judgemental and controlling, and then hated.
I don't think I'd like it at all if all my friends were like lemmings, agreeing with me all the time, smiling, and otherwise acting as if anything I do (good or bad) has absolutely no bearing on their own actions/feelings. I would actually NOT trust those people as much as I would trust someone who lays it out for me.
Now, this is not to say that anything Cassie does is stupid, or that anything like this applies in this situation at all...just kinda pushing discussion is all.
