So, as you may recall, I went on a cruise last week with Barenaked Ladies and many other bands, including Guster. I figured I'd post about it.

First off, though, I should relate that I got my car into an argument with a barrier the day before I left. I'm okay, but you can read the lengthy story about it if you like.

SPOILERS! (Click to view)
Saturday, I was driving to choir, going along down Groat Road as is my nigh-daily habit. This particular day, it was -20 and apparently the roads were a bit icy. Just as I finished the thought "Gee, we're going kinda slow," my car hit a patch of ice and started sliding around on the road. I tried to correct (Groat Road, for those of you who don't know Edmonton, is a windy road that leads down to the river and has a large cement barrier on the left and an intermittent metal barrier on the right), failed, and hit the barrier on the right hand side. When the car stopped, I was facing backwards, towards the cars who had all stopped expectantly. After reassuring myself that I wasn't bleeding anywhere, I pulled a seven-point turn into the right-hand lane, facing the right direction and got out to see what was what just as my car starting binging COOLANT. The guy who had been pacing me slightly behind me in the right-hand lane also pulled over to help me out. As I was driving an Ion, it was made of plastic, so there were chunks of my car all over the damn place, and I could see the river of coolant coming from what was left of my radiator. The radiator itself was mostly intact, five feet behind my car, lying on the road.

So I called my dad. Then I called Saturn roadside to get them to get me a tow truck, then I had to call 911 so they could pass me to the police so they could come. The police dispatch told me he had no idea how long it would be, since there were apparently already lots of calls this morning. The first cop car showed up just after my dad arrived, though, and we were dealt with fairly quickly.

In fact, we were dealt with so quickly that I called my friend from choir (who had called me at about quarter after ten because one of the other girls saw me on her way to choir to make sure I was okay) and got her to come get me so I could catch the last half-hour of practice. Turned out it was only five minutes, but I also got the reassurance and affection I was also seeking. The tow truck had just arrived when my friend and I were driving off. Clearly Groat Road is a priority for getting people moving again, since it's all blind curves and such, even with the second cop car that was just within sight from where we were at the last curve, slowing down traffic.

That afternoon, I went home and packed for my trip the next day. After getting dropped off at freakpirate's house, a whole crapload of people went out for dinner and then out to the bar to celebrate fp's roommate's girlfriend and sister's birthdays. I figured I was due for some major drunkness to make up for the crash, so when one of the guys with us asked me to two-step (we were at a country bar called The Ranch because it's a five-minute stumble from said house) I was pretty much awful, and I fell over on cirdt and managed to get a bruise on my knee that's still black a week and a half later. I had an awesome time dancing, and I slept through most of the flights the next day.

The cruise itself will actually get its own post, I think, as this has taken longer than I expected and I want to make it a photo-heavy entry. I'm off now to wake my mom so she'll go shopping with me for a dress for my cousin's wedding this Saturday and then to go to die_erlkonig's to sort his work receipts before bells, choir, and karaoke. Have an excellent evenings, my lovelies.
