I think a lot of people use the site as an ego masturbation tool. I know that's a lot of what keeps me into it - validation feels good, even if it is from a bunch of strangers whose opinions shouldn't really matter in the slightest.

That said, there's a *very* fine line between accepting compliments to help improve self-image and taking it one step further to believe one really is the shit, and deserves more attention/affection/love than anyone else.
