So I've had the same blog posted here for a LONG time. I guess its time for a new one. I had last week off of work to go check out the RNC in St Paul. Not as a protester or as any kind of operative, but just to observe. It was a pretty cool experience, talking to all kinds of different people with all kinds of different viewpoints. I really like discussing issues with people who want to listen, whether we agree or not. It was pretty sweet. About the only people who I couldn't really talk to were the Jews for Jesus people. They all ignored me and just spouted their crazy extremist christian crap.
About the only thing that I saw as a bad thing were the anarchists, who for some reason thought that the best way to get their message (whatever it is, I'm not sure what their politics even are, or if they have any) was to incite the police to gas them and club them. This was mostly accomplished by breaking windows, erecting barriers in the streets, and throwing buckets of urine and feces on the cops (yes, I observed this personally). Now anarchists, if your goal is to get beaten up by an angry man with a club, I'd highly recommend throwing a bucket of human waste on them. I know if someone did that to me and I had a club in one hand and a can of mace in the other that I'd definitely use both of them on you. I'm not sure quite what that accomplishes though, except to make you look bad and have you beaten and sent to jail for assaulting a police officer.
That's the thing I really don't get. Whats does doing something like that really accomplish? The police are just there to keep the protesters from interrupting a perfectly legal convention. Yes, I also have a great amount of dislike for republicans, but I think the way to really achieve your goals is to let them dig their own grave, not try to interrupt their convention. All that does is add fuel to their fire and make you and your cause look bad.
About the biggest highlight of my week was seeing Karl Rove scurry down the street with a couple of bodyguards with a crowd of Code Pink ladies chasing after him and screaming 'CRIMINAL, YOU BELONG IN JAIL' at him. Funny stuff!
And the obligatory automotive picture for this blog. My last one featured the Amphicar, which I think is a pretty cool car, even though it sucks as both a car and a boat. This one is my car, or the 'vangina' as it has been dubbed. I love it even though it sucks gas like crazy.
Enjoy!

And I'm not sure why, but I really liked this picture. Maybe its because of all the hundreds of hours I've spent looking at this view. I love my van, she's my baby.
