I experienced something I'd never experienced before last weekend. It was pretty odd. I guess its something that most people will probably see at one time or another in their lives. Or maybe they won't, I don't know. Its kind of left me with a sketched out feeling though. So yeah, this isn't going to be my usual snarky, sarcastic blog, its something kind of weird, and I'm not even sure that I know how to feel about it yet.
Last saturday I went with my band up to this little town in northern MN call McGregor. Its about 2 hours pretty much straight north from here. I was sitting at the bar, as per usual when I go to a show, so I can get the bartender's attention quickly should the guys need anything, and so I can listen to what everything sounds like out front (and no, I wasn't crawling into a bottle, I had to drive home that night). While I'm sitting here, drinking my 7up, this guy comes up and starts talking to me, he was wasted, but we sat and chatted about all kinds of stuff, from music, to life, to common friends that we had, all kinds of stuff. He started buying me drinks, and you know, I can have a couple and still be below the legal limit, so it was all good.
About 3/4 of the way through the night, after much else going on (ogling pretty girls who were all married, playing pinball, etc etc), suddenly he turns really pale and passes out and falls to the floor. I checked on him, and he was totally non-responsive. This lady who's a nurse came and started taking care of him, and an ambulance was called. After they picked him up in the ambulance, I knew it wasn't good, no lights, no sirens, essentially they were hauling a dead guy out of the bar.
I just found out today that he had a stroke right there at the bar, a massive one, one that hit him like a ton of bricks, so there was no real warning signs or anything, he just went form coherent one second to laying on the floor dead the next. It was really weird, I sat and talked to the guy all night, and then I watched him drop dead right there in front of me.
So yeah, that's why I'm feeling a little weirded out today, and I probably will be for awhile. It wasn't traumatizing, it all seemed so dreamlike and strangely peaceful. I dunno, maybe that's just kind of my perspective on death these days or something. I just hope he's in a better place, I guess.

rustgiraffe:
That is pretty fucking weird and not normal. Nothing even close to that has ever happened to me so it's hard to really even imagine. but yeah...definatly something weird that will kinda haunt you for a few days if not longer.
