I'm feeling kind of giddy on too much caffeine and a kind of nonstop (but seriously fun) week. Jurassic 5 up in Vancouver Sunday was sweet. I went on my own, cuz my homies had to get back to Seattle to work after riding Whistler. Met some cool Vancouverians, though.
There were 3 warm-ups. Two were passably good white boy rap. The third one was this mild mannered-looking asian dude in jacket, tie, and Clark Kent specs who mashed together pop, rock, hiphop tunes with big techno beats. His name's Mike Relm. The music was good enough, but he did some supercool things with the video. He had movie clips and music vids going... sometimes matching the song, sometimes not. His system was set up so that when he scratched, the video went backwards and forwards too. He got different effects out of it, either trippy stuff, or stopping an actor mid word and making him repeat o-uh-o-o-uh-o-uh-o-o with his head bobbing on the screen. I'm describing it best I can, but it might be one of those things you have to experience.
Less to say about J5, just that they are the best hiphop band I've ever seen live. 4 guys MC-ing and just perfectly dialed, unbelievably tight. The crowd was loud and psyched, and I'm sure their energy fed the band's. I personally entreated 2 of them after the show to play Seattle soon (now?). They were positive, but noncommital.
Just got back from getting my hair red-ified. I s'pose it's not much to speak of here in the Suicide Girls' World of Exciting Body Modification, but I ain't never done it before. Work hassles always seemed to loom, but I think I can handle them if they come.
